Moment of hilarity

Posted by lazyboo on June 23, 2008

At work today people were telling Clark that her belly is too small, so she must not be eating enough.  Which I know is not true – I just think that the boy is on the small side, and Clark doesn’t show very much.  Even with Princess she apparently didn’t show until quite late.

In any case, the belly has grown a great deal in the past two weeks.  Pants and pyjamas which fit okay not long ago are now uncomfortably tight.

I can really notice the difference visually as well.  When we were discussing the pants and the not eating comments earlier, I remarked that she was becoming more rounded, like an apple.  She then proceeded on a mini-rant about how by the end of the pregnancy she was going to look like a blueberry, and then stuck her arms out in the air and waved them around and waddled.

I know its lost in translation but it was truly hilarious.  I could barely speak, and wheezed out that she looked like a fat demented penguin, and by this time we were both laughing so hard that she was begging me to stop making her laugh or she was going to pee.  Damn weak pregnancy bladders.

So there you go.  Its nice to have some lighter moments scattered throughout the grind and angst of day to day life.

Small belly, so what. People should keep their comments to themselves. I don’t like how your body becomes public property.

I am 33 weeks now, when I walk into a room with people I haven’t seen, they all say “Phwoah!” which I pretend is “what a glowing example of a beautiful pregnant mummy” but I think is actually “you are a whale.”
